    A Day in the Life of an Internal Auditor:

    This position is responsible for the timely execution of risk-based operational internal audits in accordance with the annual audit plan, as well as assisting with other audit matters and projects.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain frameworks/models/criteria for assessing proposed or existing controls, structures, and systems
    • Build, maintain and manage relationships and partner with MHP management and personnel to continuously improve service to members through cost-effective internal controls procedures
    • Examine and observe operational processes and procedures
    • Conduct and document audit testing of specified operational areas, identify reportable issues, and validate accuracy of results and conclusions
    • Prepare working papers and testing documentation in source documents to clearly and accurately tie the documentation to the controls or testing attributes.
    • Document audit procedures
    • Develop and present findings and recommendations
    • Manage solution development and implementation, management responses, and inquiries from management and staff
    • Draft written audit reports of audit objectives, scope, findings and recommendations with minimal spelling, grammatical and editing necessary
    • Conduct follow up, tracking, and remediation testing of prior audits for   implementation of recommendations to ensure that adequate corrective action is taken
    • Maintain a thorough and current understanding of audit methodologies, policies, and procedures applicable to MHP. Suggest improvements to audit methodologies, policies, and procedures to incorporate results applicable to MHP.
    • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of auditing principles  and applications.  
    • Maintain and enhance a thorough and current understanding of healthcare and managed care, including pharmacy benefit management, Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial Exchange. Develop a strong understanding of all MHP lines of business, and an appreciation for MHP culture, values, objectives, strategies, and processes, and the transformation efforts affecting them
    • Prepare meaningful, clear, concise and grammatically correct reporting of audit findings and recommendations
    • Assist in performing audit planning procedures to determine audit scope
    • Assists in conducting operational based risk assessment of departments/functional areas
    • Assists in establishing risk-based operational audit programs
    • Assist in the execution and establishment of the Corporate audit plan to address assigned risk areas
    • Assist in the contribution toward Internal Audit reaching or exceeding annual goals for Internal Audit function deliverables (cost savings, risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, audit reports, committee reports)

    Qualifications

    What you can bring to Meridian:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting or finance or Fellow Designation from the Academy of Healthcare Management (AHM) is required
    • CPA or CIA strongly preferred
    • Two or more years of accounting or audit experience required
    • Healthcare or Insurance experience preferred
