    A Day in the Life of a System Operations Engineer:


    Responsible for technical services work in an integrated server network and voice environment. This position performs a full range product administration requiring a technical computer background. Responsibilities include installing and configuring network devices; diagnosing and resolving communication hardware and software problems; implementing and monitoring systems security products and procedures. This position advises management on product development and conducts user training and product demonstrations. Supervision may be exercised over lower level technical personnel..


    • Identify and solve complex, systemic problems spanning multiple systems and teams
    • Develop tools and solutions to increase the operational efficiency
    • Automate and/or execute IT infrastructure-related projects such as platform migrations and information security policy updates.
    • Production issue remediation on new & existing installations ensuring systems continue to meet business requirements.
    • Independently troubleshoot, resolve and own complex problems
    • Keep up-to-date with emerging technologies, primarily with new functionality deployed within a virtualized environment
    • Determine how software packages will be installed for all applications
    • Manage all production infrastructure and application alerts
    • Monitor network performance and coordinate system maintenance
    • Manage and optimize servers and network performance for capacity planning in order to ensure resources meet customer demands
    • Work closely with the engineering teams to ensure the various software components can be managed in a production environment 
    • Assist in the administration, operation, and support of the company's local and wide area network systems and services
    • Install new releases and updates, for Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Linux servers, network printers, wireless network devices, and other network peripherals and peripheral control devices
    • Create plans for network server backup and restoration for the execution of the HPM Disaster Recovery Plan, if necessary
    • Test and evaluate software and hardware products in order to applicability and value to the organizations operations
    • Ensure test regions are available for all systems and applications to be used by system programmers and operations personnel
    • Maintain good housekeeping and a safe working environment in the Server Room and associated storage areas

    Perform other duties as assigned



    What you can bring to Meridian:



    • Associate Degree is required, Bachelor Degree preferred
      • Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
    • ITIL Foundations preferred
    • Certification in IT related discipline is preferred



    • Minimum of two years’ experience as an Jr. Operations Engineer is required
    • Experience working medium to large data centers is required
    • Intermediate Experience with VMware hosts, vCenter Server and VMs
    • Previous experience working on projects with deadlines



    • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the network field
    • Working knowledge of storage and back-up/recovery practices and procedures
    • Working knowledge of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
    • Working knowledge and experience in Windows and Linux Operating Systems



    • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of all aspects of the datacenter
    • Identify issues and determine the appropriate course of action to remediate
    • Scripting ability, especially using shell, Python and PowerShell
    • Designing and supporting server systems and supporting software



    • Ability to leverage experience, demonstrate initiative and exercise good judgment in managing complex situations
    • Detail oriented: Errors can result in substantial delays, expenses, and disruption on projects
    • Able to work on multiple projects/priorities in a deadline-driven environment
    • Must be able to remain calm in pressure situations and adapt quickly to change
    • Able and willing to travel occasionally
